Momentum Project
Project Description: For this project, my team and I were tasked with designing an experiment, where a collision occurs, and measuring the momentum and other values. We decided to create a track and run two different experiments with Hot wheels, to prove the law of conservation of momentum.
Concepts:
- Momentum: the measure of the force of an object while it is in motion. We solved for the momentum of both cars, using the equation p=mv, to prove that momentum is always conserved.
- Kinetic Energy: the amount of energy stored in a moving object. We solved for the kinetic energy of both cars, using the equation KE=1/2mv^2.
- Spring Potential Energy: the amount of energy stored in a spring. We used a spring loader kicker to send the first car down the track. The measure of spring potential energy can be found using the equation Us=1/2kx^2
- Velocity: the speed and direction of an object. We solved for the velocity of both cars, using the equation v=d/t.
